Offering over 150 low-cost homes across Second Life, Bright Corporation Rentals seems a good option to renting for cheap in Second life.

There are several house options (skybox,chaet,villa…) with a variable amout of options accordingto rental level: set home position, eject/ban rights, free furniture (or use your own), free TV + radio, share with partner and the regular prices rank is between 75-250 lindens/ week . There are also some no so cheap rentals here.

The Brigt corporarion sky chaklets and all skyboxes are too high for avatars to fly without a “flight assist” gadget: which is nice as it means there are far fewer people floating about up here. If you don’t have one, drag the “Flight Feather” below into your inventory, right click it, and select “Wear”. It will enable you to fly to any height anywhere in Second Life.

RENTING A HOME

Would you like to live here? It’s easy!

1. Right-click the rent box and click “Pay”.
2. Click a button to pay 1, 2, 4 or 8 weeks rent. You will now receive your free gifts!
3. Press “Control+F”, click the “All” tab, search for & open “Bright Corporation Rentals”, and “View Full Profile”.
4. Click “Join ($50)” (the $50 is refunded on leaving). As a member, you can rez things.
5. Click “World” and “Set Home To Here”. Now Control+Shift+H gets you home!

At the end of your stay, collect your prims, click the rent box, and click “Leave”. If you are not in arrears, IM Shan Bright and you will get back the $50 you paid to join the group.

FURNITURE AND PRIMS

FREE GIFTS: You will find two new folders in your Inventory: “Welcome!”, with a copy of this notecard, and “Welcome-gifts!”, with your Uniprim furniture, TV, and Web-Radio. If you ever need fresh copies of these, just click the rent box for its menu, and click “Welcome kit”.

REZZING: Make sure the words “BrightCorp Resident” are floating over your head. If they aren’t, right-click your avatar, click “Groups”, click “Bright Corporation Rentals”, and click “Activate”. Then just drag items from your Inventory onto the ground to rez them.

RUGS: Be careful rezzing rugs and other thin objects! SL rezzes things slightly too low, so they can sink into the floor and be hidden, but still take up your prim count. To put down a rug, rez it on top of another object, right-click it and click “Edit” so that three arrows appear through it, and drag down the blue arrow to pull it to the floor.

PRIM LIMITS: You can keep 25 prims in an apartment, 40 prims in a chalet, 80 in a loft, 150 in a suite, and 250 in a villa. The total number of prims available at each rental site is fixed, so please don’t rez (or even temp-rez) more, or we may have to “return” them – right away, and at your own risk – simply to make sure there is still space for your neighbours to rez *their* prims.

COUNTING PRIMS: To count the prims in an object, right-click it, and click “Edit…” to display its information window. Near the top-right you will see (for example) “Selected objects: 1, primitives 5″.

If you use the Uniprims, each item is 1 prim, so 25 items of furniture = 25 prims, 40 items = 40 prims, etc!

To count the prims in your skybox, click your rent box. It will display your prim count, and a series of buttons. It is updated every five minutes, but if you think it might be out of date, click “Refresh”.

EXTRA PRIMS: You can rent more prims for $2/prim/week: just IM Shan Bright and tell her how many you would like. Don’t worry if she is offline, she’ll adjust your rent box the next time she is on. You needn’t send any money to her, but we do ask that your rent box is paid up for at least four weeks before we add prims.

(Example: Philip Linden is renting a Sky Loft for $150/week, with 80 prims. His is paid up for one week. He pays $450 into his rent box to bring this up to four weeks, and IMs Shan Bright asking for 40 prims extra. His rent goes up by $80 to $230/week, and his lease drops from four weeks to 18 days.)

TV AND RADIO

In “Welcome-gifts!” you will find your Bright TV and Bright Web-Radio, boxed and with instructions.

The Bright TV uses a “public” ariel provided at each site, so unlike most TVs it does not need to be “deeded”. You can use it to watch video or display web pages. The Bright Web-Radio lets you and your guests tune into internet radio stations which play through your web browsers.

As in most places where rented homes share the same piece of land, you can’t use ordinary SL televisions and radios, as they work by changing “stream” settings for the land, so each time you changed station, *everyone* would change station. But the free TV and web-radio provided will let you enjoy entertainment without disturbing your neighbours, or their disturbing you.

VISITORS AND PARTNERS

You can invite visitors to your home whenever you like: just tp them in :)

However, to keep our rentals private for you, we do not allow unaccompanied strangers, or landmarks (as these get handed out), so to share your skybox with a friend, partner, or “alt”, make them a resident too. Just click your rent box and click “Resident 2″. You will hear “Please ask the second resident to say ‘/27650 hello’.”

The number will vary: like a PIN number. Ask your partner to say the phrase near the rent box: when it hears ‘/27650 hello’ it will record their name as second resident. They should join “Bright Corporation Rentals” as you did. Their $50 is not returned, but a one-time fee, allowing them to set home position, rez prims within your allowance, and come and go as you do without paying additional rent.

And if you ever wish to remove their name, click the rent box and click “Clear 2″.

SECURITY

The seclusion and sheer altitude of the sky chalets mean that you will probably never be troubled by strangers in one, and even apartments are seldom visited by anyone except their residents. However, if an unwelcome visitor refuses to leave, you have powers you do not have in public places.

1. Right-click the intruder and select “Freeze” to prevent them moving
2. Right-click them and select “Eject” to teleport them away

If you eject someone, you will be asked if you wish to ban them. If you do, they will be *permanently* unable to enter Bright Corporation Rentals airspace.

Please note that security gadgets simply don’t work in rentals, as in Second Life gadgets can only eject people if they belong to the land-owner. They are also laggy, annoying, and you really don’t need them.
